After a brain surgery forces professional surfer Simon Hetrick to slow down, returning to the ocean becomes less about recovery and more about tapping in to roots. Instead of chasing the same kicks that shaped his past, Simon Hetrick sets on a mission to find boards with history — digging through the forgotten corners of surf culture and scrolling Marketplace for shapes from the 70s, 80s, and 90s.
Over the course of a year, the film follows Simon’s experiments across different corners of the United States, exploring classic boards, unique designs, and the shapers behind them. Each board carries a different era, a different philosophy, and a different way of connecting with the ocean.
The search becomes a replenished love of surfing — built around patience, routine, and curiosity. These boards are not just tools to get back in the water, but a way to discover new lines, new sensations, and a new relationship with surfing.
